I have extra time on my hands so I'll do another quick report if you don't mind :)

Christian Dior, Spring 2012
The collection was not very surprising: classic shapes and tailoring with luxurious fabrics and sexy sheer bits. This glamorous collection really emulates what makes Dior so great. However, I wasn't exactly blown away by many of the pieces. This probably has a lot to do with my age, as I can't really see myself ever wearing most of the collection (check with me about Dior in 20 years!). However, these are the kinds of pieces I would absolutely LOVE to see my mother mix in with her (dull) business wardrobe for a bit of an injection of glamour.

This oriental inspired dress was one of the definite standouts of the collection. It reminds me of  a replica of a 50s dress made by a Chinese seamstress. Definitely something gorgeous, and bang on trend with all the oriental influences coming our way for summer.

Top 2:
Very elegant and wearable. I can see myself in this again and again. Perfect look!
If I'm ever invited to a black tie event... ;)

Confession: I am quite lazy at following fashion. There I said it. I love watching shows, reading blogs and magazines. However, for someone as laid back as myself, constantly being a few seasons ahead gets confusing! Lately I've developed a habit of clicking myself to Vogue dot com to get my digest of fashion (in addition to all your lovely blogs!) and I feel that I'm on top of things for a change. So I've decided to start sharing some of my favourites from recent shows with you lot.
Here's my first edition; if it goes well (aka you don't hate it) I'll start to make it a regular on my blog.

Giambattista Valli, Spring 2012:

My eyes were drawn to the multitude of detail (lace, tailoring, texture) and the crisp white materials. The darker pieces were well suited for s/s as they too were incredibly light and floaty. I can see the sheer trend continuing well into the summer. The few pops of colour were a great continuation of the initially monochrome collection, and didn't break the cohesiveness. Great shapes, great prints.Overall very feminine and "expensive" as Alex Perry would say.

Top 2:

The perfect party dress. If anyone's seen a cheaper version of this on,say, ASOS or something let me know!
The perfect summer dress. I would love to wear it on a picnic... if it wasn't so fancy.

This really has nothing to do with my life. But god, I love her accent and voice. Too cute. Lyrics are a little silly, but real. And honestly, who of us has never felt like this? :P

Study Leave

Starts in 3 days! After those three measly days, all I have to do is study my little toosh off, show up at the exams (and of course ace them!) and get the heck out of high school. Hasta la vista! ;)
Many exciting things are also due to happen during this period of studying, the least of which is actually studying (sure to happen a lot, but needless to say: rather unexciting)

  1. Valentine's day-. I know, I know. It comes every year. But you see, this one's the first I'll ever celebrate with H (or anyone for that matter). We were together on Valentine's last year as well, but my idea of a celebration is not being sandwiched between my sisters, watching tv and eating a microwave meal of meatballs and mash. Yeah. This year we're cranking it up a notch and doing the whole dinner and movie thing.
  2. Senior day (or penkkarit in Finnish) where we get to dress up in whacky costumes (50s is our theme), have our own show at assembly to reminisce on our years in HS and humiliate teachers in the most elaborate ways and ride on the back of a truck around town and throw candy at people. Finnish traditions: don't get 'em, never will. But hey, as long as it's fun.
  3. Turning 18. FINALLY. As I started school a year early everybody else in my class has already reached the magical age of clubbing and I have been left behind. But not for long! I am planning a bit of a get-together at a pool and snooker bar. We'll see how that turns out ;)
  4. Going to Lapland. Very pivotal in many ways: firstly, I am a failure as a Finn as I have never actually visited Lapland...or learned to downhill ski properly (much to the disgust of my future father-in-law). Secondly, this will be my first ever holiday (or vacation to you Americans) with my boy's folks, so the 13hour drive is sure to be interesting to say the least. LUCKILY they are lovely people, and we get along swimmingly.
  5. I GET UNI RESULTS. This scares me so much I can't believe it. On some level I am just itching and burning and dying to get out of this country and actually get started with my life. On the other hand, poor little Ninja will have to survive there alone for an entire year, since H is starting his mandatory military service. Damn.
I will keep you updated on all of this :) And of course outfit posts and the glorious world of fashion.

With much love and excitement,

Some kind soul could could order me these in a size 36. Perfect birthday present ;)

My dream shoes by none other than Jeffrey Campbell. Too bad they would cost me around 200 euros :P Maybe I can convince daddy to get them for me (like that would ever happen!)

Slouchy

I had a super lazy morning followed up by a very busy afternoon and evening at work. What saved my day was the sweetest Scottish guy who assured me that my university choices are fabulous :P a fantastic radio station and a surprise pizza from the restaurant across also made it easier to get through (not that work at subway is that hard :P).

Here's my morning outfit (I still think that I should show you my cute uniform some day!):
A very basic chill outfit: levi's bf fit jeans, gina tricot knit, h&m boy's parka, h&m headband, winter boots, and adorable dog ;)

Restaurant recommendation

After one of our favourite couples introduced us to the Vapiano chain of Italian restaurants we were enamoured. This week we went back for a special little date just the two of us. For those of you who don't know: the menu includes antipasti, pasta, pizza and desserts and the prices range (at least here) from 3,5 euros to about 15 euros, so quite cheap for a restaurant. What's really different about it compared to other restaurants here in Finland is that you queue to watch your dish being made (a little like you do in subway)! Sounds odd, but works fairly well and is probably why they manage to keep prices low.
I had a delicious egg-plant pasta and bruschetta and I was absolutely stuffed afterwards. The moral of the story is that if there's a Vapiano near you, it is definitely worth checking out!

memories of everything that blew through

I've had a chilled out day today. The point of it is to pretty much relax, because I don't have another free afternoon/evening before Monday, as I have my driver's ed tomorrow and shifts at work Fri-Sun (but hey, no complaints, more shopping money for me :P). Basically what I did was get some mags and tea and just take it easy for a bit, work out and then take long bath followed by a lovely little nap. mmmm :)
Here's a few snaps and my ootd:

vintage blazer (this time brown, same store as the tartan one) over a denim shirt and leggings with boots from MONKI, a cuddly scarf and a felt hat. Also this gorgeous ring from Rome.

Lesson of the day: no matter how busy you are, remember to take time off for yourself. It makes a world of difference.
Love,
Ninja
I love tartan! I bought the loveliest vintage tartan blazer (wow, what a mouthful) from a second hand store last weekend and I've been itching for the right weather to wear it. Well, the bitter frost gave way to just a few minus degrees centigrade the day before yesterday and my opportunity had come! The reason I love it so much, is that it really smartens up a basic jeans and t-shirt look (which is pretty much my uniform) and that nobody's going to have the same exact one!

I teamed it up with jeggings, boots, a scarf and nerdy glasses.

Inspiration on a snowy day

My photo inspiration today is androgyny, because It's a major inspiration for my style aesthetic.I just love the idea that people could dress just like they wanted: as feminine or as masculine as they felt that morning getting out of bed. And all of this with other people's acceptance. Perhaps a little Utopian, no?

Remember this cute knit sweater from Mango? I swear I wore it 3 days in a row this weekend. Sad, I know. But maybe I seem less pathetic if I told you that I first spotted it in Rome last autumn, but decided to save money and refrain from buying it- and I'm glad I did because I found it here paired with a beautiful -50% tag on it ;)
Here's one of my starry looks:
Zara dress, Mango knit, h&m furry waistcoat, leggings, h&m hat and my lovely winter aviator heels. Tadaa!

Happy Birthday Kate!

The gorgeous pixie-like apparition of a woman turns 38 today. As she's always been a bit of an inspiration to me (don't take this to mean that I aspire to model :P), I thought that she really deserved a special mention in my humble little blog!

p.s. It's incredible how many times that woman's had her tits out. But hey, if I had a body like that, I probably would too!
