memories of everything that blew through

I've had a chilled out day today. The point of it is to pretty much relax, because I don't have another free afternoon/evening before Monday, as I have my driver's ed tomorrow and shifts at work Fri-Sun (but hey, no complaints, more shopping money for me :P). Basically what I did was get some mags and tea and just take it easy for a bit, work out and then take long bath followed by a lovely little nap. mmmm :)
Here's a few snaps and my ootd:

vintage blazer (this time brown, same store as the tartan one) over a denim shirt and leggings with boots from MONKI, a cuddly scarf and a felt hat. Also this gorgeous ring from Rome.

Lesson of the day: no matter how busy you are, remember to take time off for yourself. It makes a world of difference.

I love tartan! I bought the loveliest vintage tartan blazer (wow, what a mouthful) from a second hand store last weekend and I've been itching for the right weather to wear it. Well, the bitter frost gave way to just a few minus degrees centigrade the day before yesterday and my opportunity had come! The reason I love it so much, is that it really smartens up a basic jeans and t-shirt look (which is pretty much my uniform) and that nobody's going to have the same exact one!

I teamed it up with jeggings, boots, a scarf and nerdy glasses.

Inspiration on a snowy day

My photo inspiration today is androgyny, because It's a major inspiration for my style aesthetic.I just love the idea that people could dress just like they wanted: as feminine or as masculine as they felt that morning getting out of bed. And all of this with other people's acceptance. Perhaps a little Utopian, no?

Remember this cute knit sweater from Mango? I swear I wore it 3 days in a row this weekend. Sad, I know. But maybe I seem less pathetic if I told you that I first spotted it in Rome last autumn, but decided to save money and refrain from buying it- and I'm glad I did because I found it here paired with a beautiful -50% tag on it ;)
Here's one of my starry looks:
Zara dress, Mango knit, h&m furry waistcoat, leggings, h&m hat and my lovely winter aviator heels. Tadaa!

Happy Birthday Kate!

The gorgeous pixie-like apparition of a woman turns 38 today. As she's always been a bit of an inspiration to me (don't take this to mean that I aspire to model :P), I thought that she really deserved a special mention in my humble little blog!

p.s. It's incredible how many times that woman's had her tits out. But hey, if I had a body like that, I probably would too!

Flesh is the word

I have to say that I was quite disappointed with the selection of dresses at the 2012 Golden Globes. While everyone was certainly looking gorgeous, there was nothing that really made me go "WOW!". There was a noticeably large supply of nude toned dresses as well as blue ones this year. Overall underwhelmed.
That said, there were also some definite hits that night:

This gorgeous 50s prom dress-style gown worn by Andrea  Riseborough  was the closest to wow me.  The styling is simply perfect for the dress.

As simple as it was, I really enjoyed Shailene Woodley's  Marchesa dress. I just would have loved to see it styled with a bit more old hollywood glamour!

I also really enjoyed how Emma Stone's Lanvin look separated her from the crowd: colour! The shoes are also fabulous with the dress.

Did I miss one of your favourites?

Memento

H snapped this gorgeous shot of me at the harbour on the way back from a Fashion second hand event on Saturday. It was a very exclusive fleamarket-type of shopping experience in a trendy club downtown with local tv-stars and stylists alike. I ended up making quite a few finds there and at vintage stores. Can't wait to show them to you!

For Pattie

I did my own little version of the mod staple- the mini:

I made the look a very cute and girly one with a gorgeous vintage cotton dress (that buttons open all the way!) and a little beret I bought from H&M sales last week for a mere euro!

I hope all you angels are well!

Mr and Mrs Tweed, look number 2

Just got back from work and not feeling too verbal right now so let's just stick to a lovely outfit post shall we. I'll have a heist post later this week if time will allow!
So basically a similar simple and relaxed look: THE dress, fur waistcoat from H&M, a necklace from Istanbul, jeggings and wintery heels.

Voila!

Tangled

I'm obviously having a bit of a hair obsession lately, but I have decided that I must add new styles to my repertoire as I only tend to wear it in a side pony, regular pony, low pony, side braid, french braid, a bun or pinned all over the place. So repetitive. I decided that mission number1 is to finally make the effort to practise braiding, from the boho dangly plaits to the very classy updos. Braids are my choice of weapon today because they can look so unbelievably glam while still being very organic and low-maintenance + with a bit of extra hairspray you can wear it two days in a row. Perfect!

Here are a few exciting ways to spice up your every day braids:

Try braiding a crown of loose braids on top of your hair to show off your features. Tip: I find it easier to make a tighter braid first, fasten it and then loosen with my fingers.
Keep your french braid(s) tight and create lots of texture with your hands and a tiny bit of product like wax.
For a really relaxed take on the classic "bangs out of the way"-braid, make it super thick and messy. Don't bother fastening it, just let the tips mold into your natural hair.
If your fringe is still bugging you you could try these super tiny plaits paired with curls. Gorgeous!
I am personally more than in love with this look! Just a simple side plait, but the fringe really gives it a nice contrast. Effortlessly cool.
For a more grown up take on the pigtail braids, do them french and make them HUGE and  super messy!
Or take a cue from Heidi with this cute milkmaid braided style: just part your hair in the center , create braid on either side of the head and pin up. There's room for lots of variation.
